Prerequisites

Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of insurance principles and financial
concepts. Prior exposure to Islamic finance or Shariah-compliant products is beneficial but not
mandatory. The program is suitable for employees of Takaful and Retakaful companies,
intermediaries, and professionals in related fields who wish to deepen their knowledge of
Takaful operations, models, and market practices. A general awareness of conventional
insurance operations will help participants appreciate the differences between traditional
insurance and Takaful.

Program Overview

This unit provides a comprehensive review of corporate governance and its application within
insurance companies. It examines governance frameworks, board structures, and the roles of
directors and senior management in ensuring accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
Participants will explore key governance challenges, including agency dilemmas, regulatory
compliance, and risk oversight, while learning best practices for strengthening governance
frameworks. The course is delivered through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical
exercises to help learners apply governance principles effectively in real-world insurance
contexts.

Learning Outcomes

To successfully complete this course, participants are expected to attend all scheduled
sessions, actively engage in discussions and group activities, and demonstrate understanding
of the course material through participation and assessments. Full completion requires meeting
the minimum attendance criteria, contributing to interactive exercises, and achieving satisfactory
performance in any evaluations or quizzes conducted during the program.
